If Urban’s Green Team has its way, water bottles may one day become an endangered species. Members are educating students about plastic’s impact on the environment and the high cost of buying water bottles. Members also are lobbying to ban plastic water bottle sales in the student center. Green Team’s goal is to urge the use of reusable bottles.

    Facts:

Plastic bottle production uses 50 million barrels of oil each year, which is equal to the amount of oil the entire United States uses in 2.5 days

It takes 2,000 times the energy to produce a plastic bottle of water than to get the same amount of water out of the tap

It can take up to 1,000 years for a plastic water bottle to decompose in a landfill
