Boys varsity soccer doesn’t disappoint large crowd of fans with win over Bay

While a cold night at Kimbell Fields would intimidate most, Blues fans ignored the uncomfortable climate and arrived in droves to watch the boys varsity soccer team overcome an early deficit and beat the Bay Breakers 3-1. As typical of the first big weekend game of the year, about a third of the school was there, well outnumbering the handful of Bay fans watching from a few feet away.

Even though the Blues fell behind early, the squad outplayed Bay most of the game. Their hard play paid off quickly as co-captain Harry Krinsky (’13) collected a rebounded ball in the box and placed it in the right side netting.

Krinsky, who had two goals and an assist, admitted that the large crowd distracted the team in the beginning, but attributed the comeback to hard work from the Blues.

“This Urban team plays harder than any Urban team I’ve played on,” commented Krinsky.

The Blues kept the pressure on throughout the second half and put themselves on top of Bay with a great header by Kim Davidson (’14), quickly followed by another goal by Krinsky.

Despite the victory, Seth Rosner (’14), who assisted Krinsky’s second goal, felt that the match was “(a) rough game (because we) never really found our groove, but we still got the win.”

The boys play their next game at Crocker-Amazon against Valley Christian High School on Sept. 3.
