The “Humans of Haight” photo gallery hopes to capture the essence of the characters of Haight Street. It is inspired by the photography website, Humans of New York. The photos were taken by Niki King Fredel with reporting assistance from Olive Lopez and Lily Dodd. This is the first installment in the photo project, one that will be continued in the future.

  • What was your most memorable high school moment? "I went to an art school in seattle. It was like 78% people who are, like, gay, lesbian, transgender. It was international. A huge clash of kids from all different countries. It was really cool" -Sydd (declined to give last name).

  • What advice would you give to your high school self? "Take advantage of every opportunity. When you're younger you don't appreciate [life]" -Peta Finn (left). What was your most memorable high school moment? "I made money buying uniforms from older students and selling them to younger ones." -Steve Bogner (right).

  • What advice would you give to your high school self? "Don't be so dramatic." -Leyla Kutternig.

  • What was your most memorable high school moment? "First year." Why was it memorable? "Because all the other kids were fuckin' nuts. I was like, 'Hell no.' I went back home and did a telecourse." -Christopher James.
